Tips and hints:
Melinda Monson of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, sent us these great
hints she used to make her Old Testament Quiet Book really special for
her son James:
"I
added handles to my book with matching cording [note - Little
Lit Quiet Books now come with colorful cording included!] . The
handles make for
easy carrying, just like real scriptures! I recommend making them at
least 8 inches long and sewing them into the seam of the covers. Making
the matching cording was way too much work, but it does look nice now.
I
also satin stitched many of the pieces to the pages which covers the
raw
edge nicely. To add stability when sewing I used Stitch 'n Tear on the
back of the satin stitching
I
had so much fun making my book. I love the happy, simple pictures."
More Hints
-If you’re having trouble sewing on the play pieces, try using a
walking foot or stitch over a piece of tissue paper and tear the paper
away after you've finished.
-
For extra fun, you can sew a piece of felt to the back of the
larger play pieces so that they form finger puppets. Place the
velcro on the back of the felt and the pieces can be played with in so
many different ways.
